A phone call does not constitute as an appearance. You need to appear in person or by mail. You have 10 days to make an appearance before the court regarding the charge(s) filed against you. (*Court/Appearance date is on your citation).
The Judge Session is from 9 to 10 am Fridays. Pretrial Hearings are third Fridays. No judge sessions are held on third Fridays.
If you wish to enter a plea of not guilty and desire a trial, you may do so in person or mail your plea to the court on or before your 10 day appearance date. You may request a trial by judge or jury, and you will be notified by the court when you must appear for pretrial and any other required procedures.
Fines: Each fine is determined by the Court. The state sets a minimum and maximum amount of fine. The Court must set the fine within these limits.
The maximum fine on traffic violations is $200, class “C” misdemeanor violations is $500 and city ordinance violations can be up to $2,000 depending on the charge except with subsequent offenses, tickets for “Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility” or charges occurring in a construction zone with workers present.
Court Costs: The State of Texas sets court costs for each type of violation. These costs could be as low as $8 to as much as $200 per charge.
Time-Payment Fee: State law requires the Court to add a $25 fee to each case if you elect to take more than 31 days to pay your fine and court costs.
Warrant Fee: State law sets the warrant fee at $50 per warrant.

Drivers Safety Course
Under the laws of the State of Texas, you may be able to require that one moving violation charge be dismissed by taking a driver’s safety course. To request a driver’s safety course, it must be in person, by certified mail, or by an attorney. However you will lose that right if you fail to provide written notice on or before the appearance date shown on your citation.
